The Ajissai flowers season
2012/Jul/01 Sunday views:
We are in Ajissai(Hydrangea) season, flowers growing in clusters. A season usually occurs late in June, along with the rainy season. They are flowering about a month to fade at the end of the rainy season. A bit like the cherry, it is an ephemeral spectacle that Japanese really like. The famous place near Tokyo to contemplate these flowers is the city of Kamukara, located in the Kanagawa Prefecture south of Tokyo. This city by the sea, which was once the center of the Bakufu government in twelfth century, is known for its temples.
Last weekend in the morning, despite a cloudy weather, as is customary during the rainy season, I took the train to Kita Kamakura. And as it was the best weekend where you could see Ajisai in bloom, many people had the same idea.
Upon my arrival is the crowd, it was worse than rush hour in Tokyo. And of course this people went to the same place as me, Meigetsuin, a temple which surrounded by bushes Ajisai.
Along the way, you could see these flowers bordering the road and plenty of photographers and other photography students circle with ultra pro material, taking pictures of flowers from all angles. It had been a while since I did not come to Kamakura, find these trails where the greenery is everywhere, in a landscape which doesn’t seem to be influenced by modern architecture, made me some good.

Arrived at the entrance of Meigetsuin, it was also crowded.I paid the 500 yen required for entry, to find a place decorated with flowers of different colors, and again a lot of people. The show is worth a visit, but I advise you to avoid weekends and aim preferably weekday mornings, if your schedule allows.
Indeed, what impressed me the most is the constant crowd of Kamakura. You had to wait for transportation, restaurants, and temples. To eat in restaurant at Gokurakuji which is 4 stops from the station of Kamakura, it took me over 3 hours. And when I saw the queue for Joujuin, another spot of Ajisai, I just gave up. I'll maybe make another try this week to Joujuin to take some pictures.
